On Friday evening the Committee will be launching the club’s annual sportive. At the request of many we are renaming the event in honour of Philip Corr. Hence forth the event will be known as the, 'TQCC Summer Solstice Sportive, in memory of Philip Corr'. We all think this is a perfect tribute to Philip and what he achieved in co-founding and directing the development of the club as it’s first Chairman.
Most know the story about the development of the club and how it was inspired by the Giro coming to Belfast five years ago today. And how the pink band on the left arm and on the shorts of the club kit, is a nod to the Giro d’Italia Big Start in Titanic Quarter.
But events like the Giro and our sportive cannot happen without those who give up their time. Those who marshal, assist at registration, set up the course, etc.. And before we launch the event, we ask that you the members help us make this one of the best sportives on the calendar, by assisting in whatever way you can to make this a fun experience for the sportive participants.
So when we launch the sportive we will be posting two rides on Strava. The ‘familiarisation ride’ on the Wednesday evening before the event, for those directly supporting the event. And the sportive itself, which takes place on the evening of Friday 21 June 2019. We ask that members first consider volunteering for one of the aforementioned roles. And if you can’t do that then support the event by cycling the event keeping our many entrants company on those many rolling hills.
