Join Belfast's Cycling Club

Looking to join a cycling club in Belfast? Whether you're a complete beginner or a seasoned racer, Titanic Quarter Cycling Club (TQCC) welcomes all abilities. We're Belfast's friendliest cycling club with weekly group rides, social events, and a supportive community of cyclists across Northern Ireland.

If you have any queries, please e-mail our membership officer at titanicquartercc@gmail.com

How to Join

1 Join us for a taster ride

As with all cycling clubs, members are required to be covered by third party liability insurance and this is included with a Cycling Ireland licence. Potential members are welcome to come out on two 'taster rides' with the club and you can sign a form before the ride which will mean you are covered by insurance during the group ride.

Interested in a taster ride? Please contact us before your first ride so we can provide details on upcoming rides that suit your ability level and ensure you're set up with the proper insurance waiver.

2 Already have a valid Cycling Ireland licence?

If you already have a valid Cycling Ireland licence and are 'unattached', you can request a transfer to TQCC. If you're a member of another club, you will need to request a transfer from your current club. Please contact us to arrange your club membership.

3 Don't have a Cycling Ireland licence?

We strongly recommend joining via Cycling Ireland to keep things simple. You can register by clicking the link below (90% of our members hold a 'Leisure Licence').

When you register, you will be asked what club you wish to join — select Titanic Quarter Cycling Club. You'll pay both the Cycling Ireland licence fee and your TQCC club membership fee together in one transaction via the CI portal.

British Cycling and UK Cycling members are also welcome — please contact the club for registration details.

4 Membership Fees

Annual membership of TQCC runs from 1st January to 31st December. Club membership fees for 2026 are:

  • 18 & over = £20
  • 65 & over = £10
  • Associate membership (non-cycling) = £10

Note: These are TQCC club fees only. If registering via Cycling Ireland (Step 3), you'll also pay the separate CI licence fee in the same transaction.

What to Bring

For your first ride with us, make sure you have:

  • A road bike in good working condition
  • Helmet (mandatory)
  • Spare tube and basic repair kit
  • Water bottles
  • Appropriate clothing for the weather
  • Money for a coffee stop!

New to cycling?

We recommend starting with our Sunday Scone Run or Wednesday Evening Laps — both are relaxed, conversational-pace rides perfect for new riders. Check our Rides & Events page for details.

Ride Groups

Our rides are organised into ability groups so everyone rides at a pace that suits them. Choose the group that best reflects your current fitness and experience — you're not locked in, and many riders naturally progress through the groups over time.

A
Fast / Tempo
17–18 mph+

Requires vigorous riding with excellent group handling abilities. Not suitable for inexperienced group cyclists. Weekend rides typically span 60–70 miles, sometimes longer.

B1
Quite Fast
16–17 mph

Brisk to vigorous pacing with above-average group skills. Similar to A but a touch slower. Prior group riding experience is essential. Typical weekend distances are 50–60 miles.

B2
Brisk
15–16 mph

Good bike handling and solid group riding skills required. Slightly slower than B1 and ideal for riders building their fitness and confidence. Weekend rides are often around 50 miles.

B3
Steady
14–15 mph

A stepping stone between C and B2. Riders should be comfortable in a group environment and ready to push their pace. A great fit for those progressing from C. Weekend rides are typically around 40 miles.

C
Moderate
12–14 mph

Focused on general fitness and developing group riding skills. The ideal entry point for those new to club cycling. Riders capable of 25–30 miles at a comfortable pace will feel right at home here.

Speeds are rolling averages, not targets — choose based on your ability, not your ambition. If you're unsure which group suits you, start in C or B3 and work your way up.

Before Your First Ride

Ride Etiquette

Safety and respect are at the heart of everything we do. All riders are expected to follow basic group riding etiquette:

  • Arrive on time with your bike in good working order
  • Wear a helmet at all times
  • Ride two abreast where safe, single file on busy roads
  • Call out hazards and signal turns for the group
  • Respect the pace of the group you've joined
  • Be friendly and welcoming to new riders

About Our Ride Leaders

Every TQCC group ride is led by a volunteer Ride Leader (RL) — an experienced club member who plans and guides the ride. Before each ride, your Ride Leader will have planned a suitable route, considered road conditions and traffic patterns, and prepared a briefing on pace and group riding signals.

At the start of the ride, the RL will explain the route, discuss the planned pace, and review the calls and hand signals we use to communicate on the road. They're there to help new riders feel confident and to ensure everyone knows what to expect.

Understanding the Risks

While cycling is an outstanding recreational sport, it also involves inherent risks. These include but are not limited to: traveling on or crossing busy roads, winding roads, steep descents, potholes, accidents, unexpected moves by other riders, physical exertion, fatigue, mechanical issues, and interactions with motorists.

By participating in a TQCC group ride, all riders acknowledge these risks and agree to assume responsibility for their own safety. TQCC officers, committee members, and Ride Leaders are volunteers who organize rides in good faith, and are not liable for any injury or damage resulting from participation in club activities.

Your Safety is Your Responsibility

Ride Leaders provide guidance and structure, but every rider is ultimately responsible for their own safety. Ride within your abilities, maintain your bike in good working order, and speak up if you're uncomfortable with any aspect of the ride. Safe group riding requires the attention and cooperation of everyone on the ride.
